Vanity of vanities! Range is vanity.
Main points- Final damage is a natural way of assessing improvement in damage output.
- Final damage makes things easier to work with.
- Every improvement in damage output can be expressed as final damage.
- Range refers to the largest value of the damage range displayed on the stat screen.
- Damage output refers to the average damage one deals to a specified monster.
- Final damage refers to the percent by which damage output is improved. We will also refer to it as the multiplicative factor which the percent gives when the context is clear. For example, the quantity 1.1 may be used in place of 10% final damage.
- Lots of information must be specified to meaningfully speak of it.
- Range and damage output are not necessarily proportionally related (e.g. a 10% increase in range does not necessarily result in a 10% increase in damage output).
By taking the ratio of the damage output one does with the gain and the damage output one does without the gain. We will do examples for lots of settings in subsequent posts.
